A’ja, Phee & More: Meet SGG's All-WNBA Picks

September 13 2025 | Edition #137
👋 Hey, Hoophead!
The last slate of games is finally done, and we’re stepping into the weekend we’ve all been waiting for. Even the first round promises a perfect blend of entertainment and competition. We’ll have the full playoff preview for you tomorrow.
For today, before we lock in for what’s ahead, let’s take a look back. A quick jog through this historic season and our top picks from the regular season. Maybe a refresher to get you even more hyped for what’s coming. So, ready?

The Best Five! We’ve Made Our Choice

These players went through it. Injuries, wild officiating calls, brutal schedules. Some cracked, some pushed through, but the ones who rose above gave us a season we’ll be replaying in our heads for a while. So, yes, they deserve the spotlight.
Here’s She Got Game’s All-WNBA First Team:

Now, why did we pick them?
At this point, ‘why’ Wilson shouldn’t even be a question. She led the league in scoring, hauled the Aces back from the edge of elimination, and finished with the No. 2 seed. MVP, All-WNBA, face of the league… pick your title. No brainer, she is our MVP pick as well.
Almost the same goes for Collier. We’ll admit it….before her injury, we had Phee penciled in as our MVP, but A’ja made her case ironclad after that. That doesn’t change the fact that Collier had a great season and is still one of the frontrunners.
Then there’s another MVP contender, Thomas. Magic in motion. We’ve raved about her plenty, but let’s remind you again, this is the same AT who racked up 8 triple-doubles while the rest of the league combined for 7.
Allisha Gray was another easy choice. Gray just had the best season of her career, and the Dream rode her offense all the way to a franchise-record 30 wins. And last but not least, Mitchell. Yes, there’s debate. But think about it…she led all guards in scoring, played every single game, and carried her injury-riddled team into the playoffs. If that’s not All-WNBA worthy, we don’t know what is.
And for our honorable mentions (aka Second Team), we have Jackie Young, Breanna Stewart, Nneka Ogwumike, Paige Bueckers, and Kelsey Plum.

Seat Up
Let’s be honest. There’s no better way to watch the WNBA Playoffs than with a snack in your hand, leaning back on your couch with your feet stretched out. A vivid picture, huh? Well, the La-Z-Boy makes it even more realistic. Its Randell Rocker Recliner is built for game nights, afternoon naps, and everything in between.
Moreover, right now, it’s on sale for a flat 62% off! Plush cushions. Smooth rocking and reclining functions. And a design that’s made to last. It’s the perfect seat to claim before tip-off. So don’t sit around… or do!

The Regular Season’s Best Plays

There were so many jaw-dropping moments this year, it was honestly tough to pick. But we’ve rounded up our absolute favorites. Hope you’ll like reliving it all:
THE Game Winner
With 25 seconds left, Seattle’s season was on the line… and then Erica Wheeler happened. A silky mid-range jumper, followed by a game-sealing stop. Taking over on both ends, she punched her team’s ticket to the playoffs. This is what you call clutch!
Favorite Three? Wait… THREES
Returning after sitting out five games with a quad injury, we thought Caitlin Clark might struggle to regain her rhythm against the NY Liberty. But subtle isn’t her style. In this game, she drained 7 threes. The craziest moment was that insane 38-second burst, with 3 straight threes!
The Best Assist
You are just one assist away from moving into the top 6 all-time, right in front of the coach who holds that record. But if you’re Chelsea Gray, obviously, you’ll do it with your classic flair. The sickest pass of the season through a whole crowd of defenders, reminding everyone why they call you the “Point Gawd.” Don’t just take our word for it, watch it yourself!
The Best Play
The Atlanta Dream’s team chemistry has been obvious all season, and this sequence vs Chicago was the definition of beautiful basketball. Imagine this….a block by Allisha Gray, a behind-the-back pass by Jordin Canada, and an AND-1 by Brionna Jones, all in just 10 seconds! Check this great play.
Block of the Season
A'ja Wilson averages a league-high 2.3 blocks, and we’ve loved every single one. But the best one has to be on All-Star Gabby Williams. A'ja swatted the shot so hard that Williams crashed to the floor, and Wilson just shrugged like it was another day at the office.

MVPhee or Not, Minnesota is the Best Team

The Minnesota Lynx had a plan this season. A revenge plan, to be exact. After feeling “robbed of the title” last year, they were coming for it all. And with the No. 1 seed locked in, safe to say they’re right where they want to be.
One mission, though, took a little detour. The MVPhee campaign. Missed games (10 from injury, 1 from rest) meant Napheesa Collier’s push slowed down. But she still pulled off a crazy feat. Collier is just the fourth player in basketball history and the ONLY WNBA player to do it! Check out the legendary NBA trio she joined.
But if we have to be honest, the Lynx aren’t just Collier. And that’s why they’re our pick as the BEST TEAM. Even without Phee, they went 7-4, pulling off big wins over New York and Phoenix.
Courtney Williams has been unstoppable, Kayla McBride is one of the greatest shooters the league has ever seen, and Bridget Carleton proves that not everyone needs to score big to contribute. And with multiple Sixth Player of the Year candidates, they’re as deep as it gets.
The embarrassment of riches includes Natisha Hiedeman, Jessica Shepard, and mid-season pickup DiJonai Carrington. It was no surprise when their 34-10 record tied the 2023 Las Vegas Aces for most wins in a season.
Still, even with the record books smiling on them, there’s one glaring question about this Lynx squad we might have missed that could derail the title chase. Will this affect Minnesota in the Playoffs?
Nevertheless, if we’re putting our money anywhere, it’s on the Lynx. Why? Because they have Cheryl Reeve. The coach with four rings (and 4 CoTYs), a 364-190 record, and eyes locked on title No. 5.

✨ She Got Glam! ✨
Cameron Brink pulled up to the season finale looking all dolled up - sleek, cute, and ready to show off her last fit of the year. Sad that we won’t get to see her style for a while. But while Cam was soaking in those last-game vibes, nobody saw this exit coming. One brutal hit from NaLyssa Smith left her nose bloodied! Here’s her leaving with tears and a broken nose.

Why 2025 Was the WNBA’s Year

You know, there was this quiet satisfaction on the face of every WNBA player in their exit interviews. Even the ones who didn’t make the playoffs. Why? Maybe because they knew they had left everything on the floor. Or maybe because deep down, they realized they just gave the league its most historic season yet.
Let’s start with the numbers. ESPN networks delivered their most-watched WNBA regular season in history, averaging 1.3 million viewers, which is up 6% from last year’s record-setting season. Oh, we also got the single most-watched WNBA game ever. You probably know which one, but see if you guessed right.
It didn’t stop with ESPN. ABC chipped in, too. Plus, the W’s valuation hit new heights, and every single franchise doubled its value in just one year. Surprisingly, the expansion team topped the list.
And talking business, the Connecticut Sun received a jaw-dropping full sale offer at $325 million. Our players weren’t left behind either. They cashed in with historic shoe deals and big endorsement bags. But the ones riding the momentum wave better than anyone have to be StudBudz.
Gone are the days when a pink wig made you instantly think of A’ja Wilson. Now it’s all about the fun duo of Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman. Just watch how Minneapolis was practically glowing pink in their honor on Thursday!
All this shows how the league is just getting started. Every year, the W keeps raising the bar higher. Not to forget, two more expansion teams are locked in, with plans to grow to 18 franchises by 2030.
Some might say expansion is too fast. But if the numbers, the sold-out arenas, and the sea of pink wigs say anything, it’s that the fanbase is more than ready.
