All-Star Weekend Turned Revolutionary

July 20, 2025 | Edition #114
👋 Hey, Hoophead!

Over 15,000 people streamed Studbudz live, and if you weren’t one of them, chances are your feed still caught the madness of the All-Star Weekend. From start to finish, this was hands-down the most entertaining weekend yet. It felt like every single moment had something: drama, jokes, big plays, louder fits. And now that everyone’s flying back home, it’s time to rewind it all as the weekend wrapped up exactly the way it deserved to.

Indy’s All-Star Ending, Written in Four-Point Fire By Team Collier

The 2025 All-Star theme was simple: play hard, live louder. One unforgettable week in Indy packed with history, glitter, chaos, and connection wrapped up just the way it should’ve, full hearts and zero regrets. Because at the end of it all, no matter which team took the dub, everyone left with stories they’ll be telling for years.

Team Collier came out with a little extra bounce, though: Napheesa dropped an All-Star record 36 points like it was nothing, Skylar Diggins casually recorded a triple-double while setting the All-Star assists record, and they hit 24 four-point shots as a team! Talk about making history.

As for Team Clark…well, they tried. They had a whole army of young guns; this was the most U23 All-Stars we’ve seen since 2013, and Caitlin, 23 herself, was in full-on coaching mode. But even with a packed crowd begging for a comeback, Team Clark couldn’t quite find their groove. At one point late in the third, down by 24, Caitlin even hilariously booed her own team. See for yourself!

The result was a 151-131 blowout win for Team Collier, and the MVP trophy headed Napheesa’s way (Like how many of you predicted in our poll yesterday). Still, nobody’s losing sleep.

Whether you were running the floor or just vibing courtside with a star-studded crowd including Tyrese Haliburton, Dawn Staley, JuJu Watkins, UConn girls, WNBA stars, it felt like a party.

The game closed with laughter still echoing, the winning squad cheekily crowning themselves “Team Hangover,” and college reunions getting sealed in snapshots. And just like that, we’re all leaving Indy a little more obsessed than we were before.

Highlights: A Game of Firsts Ended With a Finish That Roared

The record-breaking play. Like we said before, it was a record-breaking night, but two moments really stole the show. And believe it or not, they both came down to a single play!

Skylar Diggins already had 12 assists with just over five minutes left in the fourth, while Phee was sitting on 32 points. And that’s when the magic happened. Diggins dished it to Collier at the 4-point spot, who nailed it. Two records shattered! If this is not goosebumps-worthy, we don’t know what is.

With this, Captain Collier officially passed Arike Ogunbowale’s 34-point mark to set a new record with 36. Right there in the same moment, Diggins delivered her record-13th assist as she recorded the first-ever triple-double in WNBA All-Star history: 11 points, 15 assists, 11 boards.

Travel or a valid play? Well, there are some plays that can only happen in an All-Star Game. While defenses slack off, players have the chance to pull off some moves that they don’t even think of doing during a normal game. And that’s exactly what Kelsey Plum did on Saturday.

She took full advantage of the official’s lenient whistle as she drove through the lane for a layup, paused in the paint after taking two steps, and then stepped through for an easy finish at the rim. Even the bench couldn’t believe it. This is clearly a travel, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, it counted as Plum finished the night with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Let’s see if she tries something like that with the Sparks.

📊 POLL OF THE DAY

Should Indiana Host the All-Star Weekend Again Next Year?

Last Poll’s Result: We asked, ‘Who Do You Think Will Win the All-Star Game MVP Award?’ 38% of you were proven right as you voted for ‘Napheesa Collier,’ who was named the MVP after her record-breaking performance.

WNBA’s All-Star Joyride

When Napheesa Collier was asked to name her favorite moment from the All-Star weekend, you'd think she'd go with the win or maybe breaking that scoring record. Not at all. “StudBudz has been the highlight,” she said without skipping a beat. For both fans and players, that goofy, chaotic live stream with Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman was the highlight.

Moments so unfiltered, some of these players probably woke up the next day with a few regrets, too. From the jump, this weekend felt like a big WNBA sleepover. The fun didn’t stop on the hardwood, either. Like after the game, when Minnesota’s All-Stars clowned Angel Reese, and she just walked away, embarrassed. See this hilarious moment!

Dawn Staley also went full mom mode, coaching Aliyah Boston, A’ja Wilson, and Allisha Gray on how to pose while she snapped pics of her Gamecock girls like a proud parent at graduation.

Speaking of posing, Team Collier pulled off one of the funniest moments of the weekend without even trying. They straight-up forgot Alyssa Thomas during their team photo. And the way they reacted when they found out will have you rolling!

Meanwhile, courtside had its own little comedy show. On Friday, it was A’ja and Bam Adebayo giving us funny-cute moments. This time, it was DiJonai Carrington, who kept calling her “baby” Paige Bueckers like a boomer mom embarrassing her child. Marina Mabrey and Saniya Rivers also continued feeding dating rumors. Turns out, it’s not always about the scoreboard.

A Weekend of Fun! The Best All-Star Moments

 She Got Glam!

If enjoying it all was the goal, Caitlin Clark did just that and some more. Rocking chic fits, dropping a new Nike Kobe 5 PE, hyping up her teammates, and just soaking in every second, she looked like she was having the best time of her life. And when mic’d up, like always, she gave us her own reality show. Check out the best bits from Clark mic’d up.

The Real Statement of the All-Star Weekend

Sure, it’s just an exhibition game. But it’s also the most-hyped event of the WNBA season, and the players knew exactly how to use that spotlight. Right before tip-off, as the All-Stars lined up, they took off their warmup jackets and revealed bold black shirts that read: “Pay Us What You Owe Us.” You can check out the WNBPA’s message, too.

While this weekend was full of fun, what really made it iconic was what happened before the festivities even began. On Thursday, more than 40 players, rookies and vets alike, showed up to a CBA negotiation meeting with the league. Suits on and hopeful, only to face disappointment.

The meeting was described as a “wasted opportunity” by the players. No real movement, no progress, just a lot of going back and forth. The front office, meanwhile, called it “constructive dialogue.” Cathy Engelbert said both sides were “in listening mode.” But the energy coming out of that room told a very different story.

After the All-Star Game as well, fans booed the WNBA Commissioner as she presented the MVP trophy. While the chants overpowered Cathy’s words, all eyes drifted just behind Engelbert and MVP Phee. Brittney Sykes had something to say without even speaking. She held up this sign that did all the talking.

We know that the players have already turned down the first CBA offer, stating it felt like the league ignored everything they said. Along with better revenue sharing, the players are pushing for one thing the league is long overdue on: salaries that actually reflect their worth.

So, while the All-Star weekend gave us laughs, it also gave us a statement: The era of silence is over, and this is the rise of the bold, the vocal, the united era.
