It was today, October 3, 2008, when Candace Parker achieved something no one in WNBA history had ever done and still hasn’t matched. The Los Angeles Sparks’ first overall pick was named both Rookie of the Year and WNBA Most Valuable Player in the same season, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld as the only professional American basketball players to pull off that incredible feat. Alongside those honors, Parker earned All-WNBA First Team recognition and the Peak Performer Rebounding Award.
