On October 7, 2011, the Minnesota Lynx took their first step toward building the dynasty we know today. After joining the league as an expansion team in 1999, the Lynx endured several losing seasons before landing Maya Moore as the No. 1 overall pick. Her arrival completed a legendary trio alongside Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus. That year, the Lynx compiled a league-best 27–7 record, dropped only a single playoff game, and captured the franchise’s first-ever championship with a 73–67 win over the Atlanta Dream. It also marked Minnesota’s first professional title since 1991.
Only if Cheryl Reeve and Co. had known they would go on to win three more titles, tying the Houston Comets and Seattle Storm for the most championships (4) by a WNBA franchise.
