Kate Martin Moved To Tears By Valkyries Split - LITE

Hey Hoophead!

There is plenty happening around the WNBA right now. Kate Martin got emotional while opening up about her difficult exit from the Golden State Valkyries, while Breanna Stewart called out the state of WNBA officiating after the Liberty’s win over the Mystics.

Elsewhere, the LA Sparks’ head coach addressed Cameron Brink’s limited minutes in the season opener.

Let’s tip things off…

Kate Martin could not hold back her emotions while talking about her Valkyries exit after signing with a new team.

  • Sonia Raman picked up her first win as head coach of the Seattle Storm against the Connecticut Sun. For the second straight game, the Storm saw their early lead disappear before halftime, but Lexie Brown’s three-point shooting, combined with a strong defensive effort that held the Sun without a field goal in the final 3½ minutes, helped Seattle secure a seven-point win.

  • On the occasion of Mother’s Day, fans got to witness the first overtime game of the season as the shorthanded Liberty battled for 2 hours and 41 minutes to beat the Mystics by five points. Marine Johannes stole the show, tying her career high of six made three-pointers while leading all scorers with 25 points.

  • After suffering the largest season-opening defeat by a defending champion in WNBA history, the Aces were determined not to repeat the same against the Sparks in their second game. But with just a one-point lead at halftime, things were still looking nervy for the defending champions.
However, Chennedy Carter’s 22 points off the bench, along with 75 points from the starting five, helped the Aces pull away as they exploded for 63 points in the second half to secure their second win of the season.

  • In their first-ever home opener at a sold-out Chase Center, the Valkyries used a dominant 31-11 second-quarter run to move to 2-0 on the season, with Janelle Salaun once again stealing the show.
