Lynx in Trouble After Double Gut-Punch - LITE

September 28, 2025 | LITE Edition: #69
👋 Hey, Hoophead!
What we feared has now come true: Napheesa Collier will miss Game 4! And as many suspect, her season might be over.
That means the Minnesota Lynx now face a do-or-die showdown without their captain, going up against a Phoenix Mercury squad whose core is finally clicking and hitting its stride at the absolute perfect moment. If only this were the final hurdle. To make things worse for the Lynx, the league delivered another blow in the name of a verdict on Cheryl Reeve following her Game 3 meltdown.

Friday’s Result: It was a tight race between an Indiana win (70 votes), both home teams winning (77), and both road teams to take the W (83). Yet in reality, Phoenix, with the fewest votes, ended up stunning the Lynx.

The Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury have crossed paths in the postseason eight times (including this season), the most between any two franchises in WNBA history. Their rivalry tipped off in 2011, when the Lynx swept the Conference Finals 2-0, and they repeated the feat in 2013. Phoenix finally took the upper hand in 2014, but that was the lone breakthrough for the Diana Taurasi-led Mercury. From there, Maya Moore’s Lynx took control, winning again in 2015, 2016, and then in 2020 and 2024, running their head-to-head playoff record to 6-1.
But that history belongs to a different era. This new-look Mercury might start a streak of their own.
