Destiny is a powerful word. How else do you describe a journey that began with someone who never wanted to touch a basketball and ended with her becoming the most decorated alum in Michigan charter school history? That journey belongs to Rickea Jackson.

And now, her story shines from the rafters of Detroit Edison Public School Academy. During halftime on December 23, the star who led the Pioneers to three consecutive MHSAA girls’ basketball state championships and became the first alum ever to make it to the WNBA was honored with a jersey retirement. 

It was a moment meant to celebrate everything she had accomplished. But Rickea, being Rickea, found a way to make it even more unforgettable. As fans pointed out, her look “screamed Detroit.” You need to check this one out!
