Hey Hoophead!

There is plenty happening around the WNBA right now. The W’s latest TV deal has seen a huge rise in value recently, but it has also come with a big cost for fans, something Cathy Engelbert recently addressed.

Meanwhile, Stephanie White admitted the Fever may have made a mistake involving Sophie Cunningham during their loss to the Dallas Wings, while Paige Bueckers shared her thoughts on Angel Reese ahead of the Wings’ clash against the Dream.

Let’s tip things off…

Cathy Engelbert explains why the league’s massive media growth and visibility boom have come alongside an expensive viewing experience for fans.

Monday’s Results: More than 77% of you think the Valkyries made a mistake letting go of Kate Martin.

  • The New York Liberty might currently be without Sabrina Ionescu, Satou Sabally, and Leonie Fiebich, but they have still managed to win both their games by a combined margin of 36 points, thanks largely to the performances of Marine Johannes and Breanna Stewart.

  • Johannes, in particular, has been the bright spot for the Liberty so far this season. Against the Mystics, she tied her career high with six made three-pointers while leading all scorers with 25 points.

  • Just like the Liberty, the Golden State Valkyries have also won their first two games of the season. The biggest driving force behind those wins has been the duo of Veronica Burton and Janelle Salaün, and coach Natalie Nakase will be hoping the pair can continue their strong form.

  • The Phoenix Mercury might have been brought back down to earth by the Valkyries after their huge win over the Las Vegas Aces, but Alyssa Thomas has once again firmly put herself in the MVP conversation. She currently leads the league in assists, and the Mercury will once again depend heavily on her to bring the best out of the team.
